The Children's Programme
The Children's Programme runs in the hall during the four school teaching terms. All children 3+ years are welcome: visitors as well as regulars. Younger children often need/prefer to be accompanied by an adult, or an older child/children in the family.
During the school breaks, the children stay in Church, either in the children's corner until the offertory, or in the pew.
On special occasions, the children join in the processions around the Church with 'palms' (on Palm Sunday) or with candles (on feast days). They bring forward fruit and vegetables for the Harvest Festival. The children put on a simple Nativity Pageant on the Sunday before Christmas, and at the morning tea party afterwards get small books as prizes.
The Programme is 'all age', i.e. the children remain as one group and do the same activities, usually based on the Gospel reading for the Sunday. Attendance stickers are provided. Teenagers (13+) are invited to attend as 'helpers': assisting younger children with cutting-out, gluing etc., perhaps helping with puppets and plays. Parents are very welcome to join in.
There are always activity sheets or other colouring sheets at the back of the Church. There are also lots of small reading books and some soft toys which can be taken to the pews.
